This Honorable Mention competition winner is a contemporary dwelling unit which promotes a life-style that incorporates and integrates with the natural environment by opening it’s self to the outdoors creating the perfect southern California indoor and outdoor living spaces. It connects to the existing home through a bridge/patio garden space that creates a courtyard feeling to the existing home while maintaining a great sense of privacy through the use of a split level for the new garage and granny flat. The project maximizes views towards the north while providing shelter from the sun on the southern end; this allows a perfect roof form for solar panels for collecting energy. It is the perfect solution to California’s increasing land and energy costs.
